Electronic Thesis Submissions

Electronic Thesis

Effective October 2006, the University thesis requirement is one electronic copy (.pdf only). However, Faculties/departments may have an additional requirement for bound paper copies. Students must submit bound copies to their department as appropriate see section 3.3 of the Thesis Regulations for a list of Faculty/department requirements.

Submission Instructions

Your thesis must conform to the thesis standards established by the University and Library and Archives Canada.

Preparing Your Thesis for Electronic Submission

Thesis are prepared with a variety of applications, (i.e. Word, WordPerfect, LaTex, etc.)  all such thesis can be submitted electronically, but are required to be printed to .pdf.

Theses Non-Exclusive License
Submission of this form is mandatory for both Master's and Doctoral students. See Thesis Regulations - section 9 (Microfilming) for additional information. Please download the form from this website , or obtain a paper copy from the Graduate Studies Office, complete it and submit it to the Graduate Studies Office.

Use of Copyrighted Material
Full details on "Use of Copyrighted Material" are available in the Thesis Regulations, section 2.2 . In addition, signed letters of permission must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office.

Restriction on Circulation of a Thesis

Completion of Degree
Students who wish to be considered for a tuition refund must submit a Graduate Student Change of Enrollment Status/Degree Completion/Voluntary Withdrawal Form. For further information on refunds refer to: http://www.grad.uwaterloo.ca/calendar/Grad_Calendar/Fees_EarlyTerminate.asp

Access to Your Electronic Thesis

Once your thesis has been successfully submitted, the Graduate Studies Office will transfer the .pdf file to the library and the Library and Archives Canada via ProQuest Information and Learning.  

Electronic thesis are available through the library's Electronic Theses and Dissertations (UW) collection at:

http://uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/handle/10012/6

Thesis located in this database are publicly available and are linked into the TRELLIS system.  Abstracts will be published and made available in the Dissertations Abstract International database.  

The Library and Archives Canada has contracted with ProQuest Information and Learning to film thesis for long term preservation.  Electronically submitted thesis will be preserved in the NLC fiche archive.  To search for thesis authors and titles in the Library and Archives Canada's Catalogue: http://www.nlc-bnc.ca/thesescanada/s4-230-e.html
