China Scholarship Council - Applicant information

University of Waterloo is very pleased to receive applications from excellent Chinese students who will be applying for China Scholarship Council (CSC) doctoral scholarships.

Applying to Waterloo as a PhD (Doctoral) Student:

  1. Determine which doctoral program you’d like to apply to and visit their website to learn more.
  2. Investigate potential supervisors in the graduate program you intend to apply to. Many graduate programs recommend that before applying, you make contact via email with a faculty member in the department under whose mentorship you would like to study. Ask if they are accepting new PhD students and indicate you may be a China Scholarship Council recipient. The faculty member may be able to support your application in the selection process. If you do not get a response, the Graduate Coordinator of the department may be able to assist.
  3. Apply online.
    • Indicate on the application, under International Agreements, that you will apply for the China Scholar Council-UW Agreement PhD.
  4. Upload your transcripts, ESL test score, and supplementary information to your student file. Your referees will be sent the electronic reference form to complete and return.
  5. Once you have received an Offer of Admission from Waterloo, apply to the CSC PhD scholarship program via your current University. For more information, see the China Scholarship Council website.
  6. Arrange for official documentation (transcripts, ESL score, scholarship letter) to be sent directly to the Graduate Studies Office at the University of Waterloo.
  7. Apply for your Study Permit to come to Canada. See the Citizenship and Immigration website.
  8. Apply for Student Housing at Waterloo.

Note: The funding offered to you in your Offer of Admission will be contingent on your successful application for a CSC Scholarship.

For further information, please visit the China Scholarship Council website.
If you require assistance from Waterloo, you may contact Jeanette Nugent in the Graduate Studies Office or contact the graduate program to which you are applying.
