Graduate student funding is a priority at Waterloo. The main sources of funding for graduate students are:

Teaching Assistantships - up to $4,432/term
(offered by the academic departments)

Research Studentships - up to $5,500/term for master's, and $6,300/term for doctoral students
(offered by the academic departments)

UW Scholarships - $1,000 - $ 3,000/term
(offered by the academic departments)

President's Graduate Scholarships - $10,000/year
(for recipients of OGS, NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR)

International Graduate Student Awards (for international students)

Graduate student support varies by academic department and program. Guaranteed amounts are offered at the time of admission.

Minimum support for Doctoral Students

The annual minimum level of financial support provided for doctoral students whose admission is effective May 1, 2012 or later will be not less than $20,000. This commitment applies to the first three years of full-time enrollment in a doctoral program.
